And competitive to the point of vicious.
Each challenge was met as an affront--
Stalking my opponent and preparing to hunt.
Till one day my confidence was broken
And I was no longer brave and outgoing
In my place was someone guarded and scared
Dreams left to die because I refused to dare.
And here I am older and irrelevant
trying to start over--to write a new testament.
My one dream is to find something to achieve
And yet I'm so scared to even believe.
Life can a challenge to overcome those pressures that weigh heavily upon us, i like the thought of stopping, resting and assessing and moving on, i think you poem is full of hope and a new beginning.

much love...
ah faith! that's an excellent word. It almost always coincides with trust and surrender...
DeleteThe things we wish to achieve as we grow older may change, but there is always something we can work for. Lose your fear in 2015, and go for it. Smiles! Welcome to Poetry Jam.
ReplyDeleteBest advice yet. "lose your fear" hits the nail on the head.
DeleteYeah, when you achieve - the confidence helps to believe and move to the next project/task. Happy New achievements to you in New Year! x
ReplyDeleteMy one dream is to find something to achieve
ReplyDeleteAnd yet I'm so scared to even believe. so many of us are in the same place
Figured i wasn't alone...
DeleteI wish you well in your search - you certainly appear determined!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteOh this is poignant. But with your poetry you are already achieving - you are putting beauty out into the world, as only you can do it.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that. Thank you.
DeleteWe live and learn for sure. I hope the speaker of the poem can believe and will achieve again. No one need be irrelevant! Excellent poem, Jillien.
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteDigging deep after a cut to the quick is perhaps the biggest challenge one ever faces ... if this is truly a biographical statement, I will be sending you good mojo and all the 'virtual encouragement' that I can possibly send! Good write!
ReplyDeletei can always use good mojo!
DeleteWhat a sad poem this is. I do hope you are able to find something you want to work to achieve once again.
ReplyDeleteIt is rather sad. When I first thought of the word, I figured the poem was going to be strong, fiery, determined.... But once I started writing, the words revealed something else.
DeleteGlad to see you at Poetry Jam. Hope you will also make visits to others, as we all enjoy them, and it is a good way to connect with others.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I will. Thank you!
DeleteI hope so....that would be great!
DeleteJillien, once we break it is hard to believe again. However putting your poems out here for all of us to enjoy is taking that first step. Welcome :-)
ReplyDeleteWriting is a safe zone.
ReplyDeleteDon't let anyone tell you you're irrelevant . . . hope your word is a trusty companion this year.
ReplyDeleteAchievement is something that one works pretty hard for. Sometimes I weigh out whether it is worth fighting for or not before I take the challenge.
